For my Senior Thesis project, I wanted to get fully absorbed in the woodshop, focusing only on the wood without a detailed plan. While I did some planning, I let the design of the vanity take shape as I worked. My inspiration came from a full moon I saw while staying in one of RISD’s dormitories. After that, everything came together naturally.
The construction consisted of wacky wood and walnut paperback veneer. I used kerf bending to allow the pieces to bend sharply. Within the kerfs, I highlighted my process by inlaying leather piping, a technique I learned from making cowboy boots. I constructed my own brass hinges and added strip lighting around the mirror to mimic the moon.
